1. The product of two numbers is 42.63. If one number is 2.1, find the other.

Solution:

Product of two numbers = 42.63

One number = 2.1

Other number = 42.63 ÷ 2.1

= 426.3 ÷ 21

Therefore, the other number is = 20.3

Answers: 20.3

2. John bought 9.25 m of cloth for $425.50. Find the cost price per metre.

Solution:

Cloth bought by John = 9.25 m

Cost of 9.25 m = $425.50

Cost per metre = 425.50 ÷ 9.25

= 42550 ÷ 925

The cost of the cloth per metre = $ 46

Answers: $46

3. One kg Basmati rice costs $ 43.75. Find the cost of 17 kg of rice.

Solution:

Cost of 1 kg rice = 43.75

Cost of 17 kg rice = 43.75 × 17

Therefore, 17 kg rice cost $743.75

Answers: $743.75

4. Nitheeya spent $35.75 on Physics book and $32.60 on Chemistry book. Then find the total amount spent by Nitheeya.

Solution:

Money spent on Physics book     =      35 . 75

Money spent on Chemistry book =   + 32 . 60

                  Total amount spent =       68 . 35

Hence, the amount spent by Nitheeya is 68.35.

5. Nairitee bought 24.50 kg onions, 12.40 kg potatoes and 7.450 kg tomatoes. Find the weight of the vegetables she bought in all.

Solution:

    Weight of onions = 24.50 kg

 Weight of potatoes = 12.40 kg

Weight of tomatoes = 7.450 kg

Therefore, total weight of the vegetables bought is:

           24 . 500 kg

       + 12 . 400 kg

       +   7 . 450 kg

          44 . 350 kg

Thus, total weight of the vegetables bought = 44.350 kg.

6. Michael spent $ 90.50 and Robert spent $ 67.25 on a picnic. How much more money was spent by Michael than Robert?

Solution:

Michael spent =   $ 90 . 50

Robert spent = –  $ 67 . 25

   Difference =     $ 23 . 25

Therefore, Michael spent $ 23.25 more than Robert.

(v) 165.55 l of milk is filled in 55 cans equally. How much milk is filled in each con?

(vi) Mary, Kate and Nancy weight 25.5 kg, 28.3 kg and 30.5 kg respectively. Sam weighs 10.5 kg less than the sum of the weight of Mary, Kate and Nancy. What is the weight of Sam?

(vii) A container weighs 25.345 kg. What will be the weight of 24 such containers?

(viii) 22 boxes weigh 48.400 kg. What will be the weight of 2 boxes?

(ix) 3.75 m cloth is required to stitch a school uniform. How much cloth is needed to stitch 21 school uniforms?

(x) Subtract 36.20 from 82.19. Add 16.09 to the difference and then multiply the sum by 3.2.
